On Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Illinois Emergency Medical Technician Association
(IEMTA) Annual Seminar in Springfield Illinois, Rosemary McGinnis was the recipient of
the LuAnn Acuncius Award for the pursuit and achievement of Emergency Medical
Services Educational Excellence.  She was nominated and unanimously accepted by the
IEMTA Board of Directors.

Rosemary earned her associate degree in Nursing from Illinois Valley Community
College and received her Bachelorette of Science in nursing from Lewis University in
Romeoville.  She has been with Ottawa Regional Hospital since 1980 where her many
roles have included staff Registered Nurse, Trauma Nurse Specialist, hospital
supervisor, clinical coordinator of management information systems and hospital
disaster coordinator. She has also coordinated the "Operation Prom Night" scenarios at
local high schools for a number of years.  In 1997, she was appointed as the hospital’s
Emergency Medical Services System Coordinator.  

Rosemary is a charter member of the National Association of EMS Educators.  She has
also been involved with the Governor’s EMS Advisory Council, the Governor’s Task
Force for Rural EMS Education, the Illinois Department of Public Health’s EMS Advisory
Council and the Ottawa Elementary Safe Schools committee.

She was chairwoman of the EMT Intermediate National Standard Curriculum
Implementation Task Force, during which she oversaw the role out of a state-wide
curriculum and helped develop the EMT-I licensure exam for Illinois.

She currently serves as the liaison between ambulance and area hospital personnel
and coordinates emergency medical technician education and training. She also assists
with EMT course entrance interviews, monitors EMS System Personnel Standards,
reviews and revises EMS training activities, and assists in the development, revision and
implementation of EMS standing orders, protocols and operational policies.

In 2009 Rosemary was nominated for and received the prestigious National Association
of Emergency Medical Services Educators “Unsung Hero Award” which is given to
someone who, although not nationally known, makes a difference in the lives of those
that he or she teaches. She was nominated by her peers, her students and fellow
colleagues in appreciation of her dedication to EMS education.  As a recipient of the
Unsung Hero Award, she was honored in August of 2009 at the National Association’s
EMS Symposium in Walt Disney World, Fla.

On behalf of everyone at the Marseilles Ambulance Service, we would like to
congratulate Ms. Rosemary McGinnis on her many achievements, and we wish to offer
our sincere thanks for all of her contributions to emergency medicine.
